Gamcheon Culture Village ('감천문화마을' in Korean) is formed by houses that built in staircase-fashion on the hillside. The panorama is magnificent. Lego-liked houses overlook the ocean. Further walk into the alleyways, better the panoramic view.
With its beautiful architectural layout, it is famed as “Santorini of Korea” . And according to article from CNN, the houses were builded in tiers so that no house blocks any house behind it, adhering the Taegeukdo teaching of allowing others to prosper.
The houses are connected together with flight of stairs. There even have a stairway which is so steep until people would feel dizzy and see stars in theirs eyes when climbing. So the neighborhood named it as 'Stairs To See Stars'. Recommended to prepare comfortable walking shoes ease for wandering through the steep alleyway.
Colorful Village
Gamcheon Culture Village is a cheerful neighborhood. Other than the iconic Little Prince and Dessert Fox at the observatory deck, the houses are also colorfully painted and decorated with vivid murals and sculptures. Not only for decoration, the artwork has its concept beneath.
In Gamcheon Culture Village, other than tourist information map, people could also follow the painted fishes on the wall. The painted fishes swim through the whole village bringing people to the major popular sites. It brings a refreshing experience to visitors.
Activities
You could get yourself a stamping map at the entrance. The visitation stamp challenge encourages people to come across all the beautiful places in the village when searching for stamps without afraid of missing out the photo spots or lost direction.
