[Jeonju Travel Guide] The Most Lonely Guardian of Jeonju, Pungnammum Gate

At the front of Jeonju hanok village's main entrance, there is a beautiful historic gate, named Pungnammum Gate. It is the registered Treasure No. 308 of Korea.

History of Jeonju Pungnammun Gate

• Similar to the historical 8 Gates of Seoul, originally Jeonju also had 4 city wall gates in Joseon dynasty.

• Built in 1768, Pungnammun Gate was one of the grand wall gate in Jeonju. It was being partially destroyed by fire during Japanese invasions, and wasn’t restored until 1978. Now this grand gate is the only one left standing in Jeonju.

• The gate is especially beautiful at evening when sunset, perfect for a walk.
