Day 3 : Dream, Design & Play

N Seoul Tower - Dongdaemun Design Plaza

First Stop : N Seoul Tower

Nothing was more perfect than getting some fresh air in the morning to kick start the day. Our first destination would be N Seoul Tower, which located 400m behind of our guesthouse. We could see the tower everyday when going in and out from our guesthouse. We walked around 7 minutes to the Namsan Cable Car Station and bought cable car round trip ticket to N Seoul Tower for 2 people.

The proud landmark of Seoul was built on top of Mount Namsan in 1969 as Korea's first integrated transmission tower beaming TV and radio broadcasts across the capital. N Seoul tower is 240m tall and tops out at 479.7m above sea level. From there, the most exciting view of the city can be viewed at a glance.

Without hesitation, we bought the observatory ticket and going up to the top of N Seoul Tower. The observatory deck offers astonishing 360° panoramic view over the city, even in the toilet.

We able to see everything on the ground, including Hangang River, schools and skyscappers from here. All of them were looked like Lego pieces, tiny and cute.

There also have dozen of restaurants, cafe and convenient stores in the tower.

We got bunches of beautiful N Seoul Tower postcard from the souvenir store and sent our warmest greeting to our friends in Malaysia. Afterward, we grabbed a coffee and enjoyed the astonishing view from the balcony of coffee shop. That was what I called zen moment.

Lunch : Gaehwa Chinese Restaurant

Back to Hoehyeon, we walked around 10mins to Gaehwa Chinese Restaurant for lunch.

Gaehwa Chinese Restaurant is one of the oldest Chinese restaurant in Myeong-dong. They have remained their traditional cooking method and service values for 50 years.

We ordered their signature dish, "Jajangmyeon" (black soy bean noodles). The minced meat and vegetables in black soy bean sauce were cooked with starch, making the jajangmyeon thick and savory. The black sauce reminded me the dry Wanton Mee in my hometown, Malaysia.

After recharged our energy bar, we went to our second destination, DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza). We boarded bus no. 202 in front of Lotte Young Plaza to Dongdaemun.

Getting off at Dongdaemun Design Plaza, we could find the 'silver UFO bowl' at first sight.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is the most recognizable structure in Dongdaemun. DDP was designed by an Iraqi-born British world-renowned architect, late Zaha Hadid.

The glistening exterior of DDP is made of 45,133 aluminium panels, none of which are the same shape. The continuous, fluid design seamlessly integrate the plaza with the park as one.

DDP also meant for 'Dream, Design and Play'. It serves as a home for exhibition, cultural event, themed stores, local designer pop-up shops, sky lounge and rest area, which supporting the spread of culture and the development of design in South Korea.

The streamlined design of building was iconic. We witnessed the red carpet before fashion show, seeing the classic fabric exhibition, having fun in Kakao Friend store and shopping in SM Town store. It was such a joyful experience to visit the cultural hub.

Beside that, DDP is surrounded by various kind of shopping mall, such as Lotte FITIN, APM Place, Doota Mall, Hyundai City Outlet, Adidas outlet, Fashion mall etc. Girls, welcome to heaven of shopping! Do remember to keep your receipt for tax refund.

It was almost 9pm after taking our dinner. With the warm light of DDP lit up, the futuristic building was distinctly aesthetic at night. Many couples strolled along the beautiful Rose Garden which comprised of 25,550 LED roses. Many Korean dramas including the well-known SBS drama 'You Who Came from the Stars', KBS2 drama 'Producer' and MBC drama 'She Was Pretty', were also filmed here.
